Travel Itinerary

Day 1 - Luang Prabang to Muang Ngoi

Itinerary Image

You will be pick up at your hotel at 8am for the 4-5hour drive to Nong Khiaw. Along the way, we will stop at Ban Nayang, an indigo weaving village. There you will learn how the many different colors of indigo dye are created and the process for dyeing the threads for the weavers. You will spend two hours in the village, involved with villagers in different stages of indigo product production. We will finish the visit with a meal at a local house before heading to Nong Khiaw.

After arrival in Nong Khiaw you will have a short break before climbing aboard your long trail boat for the 45-minute cruise up the Nam Ou River to Muang Ngoi. The time will pass by quickly as the scenery along the river changes. Watch children playing along the river, water buffalo grazing and enjoying the coolness of the river, and all manner of daily activities of the Lao that live along the river.

Once in Muang Ngoi, you will pack your bags for the hike up to the top of Phu Pah Noi Mountain where you will spend the night. The hike will take about 30 minutes to reach the summit. You’re going to find yourself thinking you’re in the clouds. Enjoy a good night’s rest and more than likely a breathtaking sunset.

Day 2 - Muang Ngoi to Luang Prabang

Itinerary Image

Get up this day to catch the sunrise, the sounds of early morning and a cup of coffee to jump start your day. Then start for Muang Ngoi, about 20 minutes downhill. Pick up breakfast in town and do a little exploring before boarding your boat for the trip down river. On the way we will make a stop at a hill tribe village.

Once in Nong Khiaw, we’ll get on a minivan and make a short trip to Tham Pha Tok Cave. This site played a fascinating role in this area of the country during The Secret War. It served as a hideout for the military as well as a school and hospital. You’ll enjoy seeing this bit of history.

You’ll have lunch back in Nong Khiaw and then get back on board for the bus to Luang Prabang.
